Fonds of the Lithuanian Archives of Literature and Art
The 890 fonds stored in the Lithuanian Archives of Literature and Art occupy about 2.5 thousand meters of shelves.
Most of the documents stored in the archive are from the 20th century, fonds of art and cultural institutions and archives of individuals - writers, artists, theater artists, musicians, cultural workers. They are also preserved even from the 15th century individual documents (e.g. the Kondratovičius family fond), in addition, the archive is constantly replenished already in the 21st century - documents created by currently operating institutions and creating individuals.
The complex of documents of cultural management institutions consists of the Board of Arts under the Council of Ministers of the Lithuanian SSR (1940-1952), the Ministry of Culture of the Lithuanian SSR (1953-1990), the Cinematography Committee of the Lithuanian SSR (1945-1953) and other foundations.
The complex of literary documents consists of the editorial offices of writers' and journalists' unions, "Literatūra ir menas", "Pergalė", "Kultūros barai" and other magazines from 1943 to 1990 documents, "Vaga" and "Vyturys" publishing houses, after 1990 operating "Metai", "Santaros", etc. editorial fonds. Documents from the pre-war period can only be found in private collections - the early works of S. Anglickis, A. Gricius, L. Janušytė, interesting documents from later years are those of J. Baltušys, K. Inčiūra, E. Matuzevičius, E. Mieželaitis, A. Miškinis, I. Simonaitytė , V. Sirijos Gira, P. Širvys and other foundations of writers and literary researchers.
The complex of art documents consists of the joint fond of the Lithuanian Art Society (since 1906) and other pre-war artists' organizations, the Kaunas School of Art (since 1920), the post-war unions of architects and artists, the Art Foundation, the Photographic Art Society, the Lithuanian State Art Institute, Documents of the Kaunas Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts and other art institutions. Artists A. Brakas, V. Drėma, A. Gudaitis, P. Juodelis, P. and R. Kalpokas, P. Kiaulėnas, V. and S. Kisarauskas, J. Kuzminskis, V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis, Ž. Mikšys are stored in the archive, documents of J.Umbras and other painters, graphic artists, sculptors, architects, art historians and folk artists' fonds.
The complex of music documents consists of Kaunas State Conservatory 1923-1949, Klaipėda Music School 1923-1934, Lithuanian Folk Conservatory 1930-1940, M. Karlovičius Conservatory 1925-1940 documents. The archive contains documents of some post-war music education institutions, the Composers' Union and the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, the Lithuanian Musicians' Union, the Lithuanian Academy of Music, compiled after 1990. The archive contains the documents of J. Gruodis, S. Šimkus, J. Naujalis, A. Kačanauskas, N. Martinonis, V. Bacevičius, K.V. Banaitis, as well as A. Ambrazas, E. Balsys, J. Fledžinskas, B .Gorbulskis, K.Griauzdė, V.Landsbergis, A.Račiūnas, J.Švedas, S.Vainiūnas, A.Venckus and many other composers, performers, musicologists documents.
The complex of theater documents consists of the documents of the old Vilnius City Theater in 1809-1882, the "Liutnios" Society and Polish theaters in 1905-1941, the Kaunas State Theater in 1920-1940, all state theaters of the post-war years, the theater society, some of the currently operating theaters documents. B. Babkauskas, D. Banionis, R. Juknevičius and O. Knapkytė, P. Kubertavičius and A. Vainiūnaitė-Kubertavičienė, H. Kurauskas, M. Lipčienė, V. Sipaitis, K. Tumkevičius, E. Žalinkevičaitė-Petrauskienė and documents of other actors and theater scholars. Many theater actors also played in the cinema. Those interested in cinema will also find the documents of the Lithuanian Film Studio and the Union of Cinematographers in the archive.
